The Word in the Wings
The Word in the Wings gives a behind-the-scenes look at how GPA artists are engaging with Scripture, from study to studio to presenting a Spirit-filled message on stage.
When you read “The Word in the Wings,” you’re invited to learn about the deep, biblical roots of our performance and about how GPA artists make connections between the biblical texts we study and the art you’ll see on stage.
Throughout the year, Jessica Noonan, GPA’s Ministry & Worship Leader, along with guest artists, will share articles connected to GPA productions. We hope this opens the door for even deeper dialogue between you and God as the story of Scripture presents itself in new, perhaps unexpected ways through the medium of movement.
Without further ado...

Good Friday – The Triumph of the Cross
Good Friday – The Triumph of the Cross
By: Lee Giles
In a moment, it was finished. Jesus gave up His life so that we could receive it. It was a moment accomplished before the foundation of the world. It was a moment accomplished through agonizing prayer, giving up self-will. It was a moment that was accomplished through God’s intricately perfect design arranging people, times, and circumstances. It was accomplished by a Father’s heart that is entirely self-giving because He is love.

Second Chances & New Beginnings – At Dawn
Second Chances & New Beginnings – At Dawn
By: Audrey Hammitt
Growing up, I looked up to my two older brothers and longed to do many of the exciting things they did through their youth. One of these activities was climbing the tree in our front yard in Upstate New York. There was a particular thick branch that started several of their climbing pathways, and I had looked forward to one day following in their footsteps (more like footholds) on this tree when I got big and strong enough. When I was 8, my dad’s job was relocating our family to Virginia, and time was growing short in our familiar stomping grounds.

Holding God’s Hand
Holding God’s Hand

We live in a world where we are told to do more and to constantly improve ourselves. As a dancer and perfectionist, I am no stranger to this feeling. No matter how many times I tell myself otherwise, there is always a tiny voice in the back of my head saying that I need to do better. I need to be a better dancer, a better friend, and even a better Christian. Even when trying to relax, my mind is running, questioning why I am not being more productive. I know that I am not the only one. I have met so many people, both older and younger than me, who do not know how to rest. It is the perfect formula for feeling burnt out and empty.

The Journey of Lent
The Journey of Lent
By: Jessica Noonan
Lent is a sacred journey for Christians, encompassing the 40 days leading up to Easter, a period that echoes the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness, fasting and facing temptations (Matthew 4:1-11). This time is not merely a countdown to a holiday; it is a profound opportunity for spiritual preparation, a moment to reflect on the cornerstone of our faith—the resurrection of Christ. Without His resurrection, we face a stark reality: death reigns, our Savior is discredited, and the promises of the Messiah fall flat.

What Is This Road We Walk?
What is This Road We Walk?
By: Audrey Hammitt
Over the course of a given week, we can experience a wide range of emotions, challenges, joys, and questions. Our Friday may look entirely different than our Monday, even in terms of the problems we are working through or our energy levels. With this in mind, one of the most multifaceted and significant weeks in history is Holy Week—the week from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday.

Dance & Dialogue – Embodied Faith
Dance & Dialogue: Embodied Faith
By: Jessica Noonan
Embodied faith is characterized as “the unity of mind, body, soul, and community in connection with God.” It requires active engagement rather than a passive attitude. Nurturing embodied faith demands intentionality. This relationship with God is not confined to Sundays; it permeates every aspect of our lives. It involves a continuous act of surrender and a deliberate choice we must make repeatedly.

Art Glorifying the Artist
Art Glorifying the Artist
By: Audrey Hammitt
Here at Glorify Performing Arts, our goal is to glorify God through the art of dance and inspire our audiences to glorify Him in their own lives. Our next Dance & Dialogue performance on February 8 will center around the theme of “Faith in Action.” However, to better equip ourselves to live out our faith in a way that brings glory to God, let’s first take a look at a few ways that the arts glorify the Lord.

No Crib For A Bed
No Crib For A Bed

I’m not sure how your year and advent season have been going, but I’ve been feeling a bit worn out for the past month or so. Despite still completing some tasks and managing the responsibilities I juggle, balls of my life still seem to fall, and I get frustrated and disappointed at myself for not achieving excellence…
