Project Joy!

Glorify Dance Theatre has decided to spread some JOY this fall by creating dances of hope and encouragement, filmed throughout the West Chester community.  Using songs primarily by local musicians, we are excited to be collaborating to create art together.

We will be sharing our dances with you through our email newsletter (sign up below!) and on our social media pages (@glorifyperformingarts) and on this page of our website! Our professional company will be developing 5 pieces and our Preparatory Company will create 2.  Feel like you’re going to want to see more? Become a member! Members will be getting an exclusive video from each company that will not be released to the public.

“Break of Dawn”

“Break of Dawn” is performed by our full company and features the music of Angela Burns Music, from her album “Deeper Than The Blue”.

This piece focuses on the beauty and glory of God’s love for us. Choreographically, it pulls on motif repetition which is representative of the every day activities we go about, while simultaneous phrases break away from the pattern drawing our attention to individual moments in time with God.

“Overwhelmed” is performed by our Soloists and features the music of Kat Gaffney, from her EP, Song In The Night.

Thank you to our sponsor for this videos: Luma Learn, a homeschool marketplace for online classes taught from a Christian worldview.

“Overwhelmed” reminds us that even when life is hurtful or we feel inadequate, God can overwhelm us with His mercy and grace. Through circular motions, the phrases in this dance show how there is no start or end to God’s willingness to love us, His children.

Project Joy videos will be released every other Monday evening this fall, so check back on October 26th for the next piece!

YOU'RE invited to join the Initiative!

Join the fun and bring life to your community by filming your own dance to share!  Projecting Joy can be done anywhere, so find some music that makes you smile, create a dance, and post it using the hashtag #projectjoywithGDT!

Want to take things up a notch?  Great!  Be part of the Project Joy initiative competition for a chance to have your video shared on GPA’s social media, as well as in our virtual performance later this fall!  See below for details.

Who Can Enter

This competition is open to dancers of all ages!  Whether you are entering as a group from a dance studio, are a professional company, or are an individual performing a solo, we encourage you to submit a piece.

Film somewhere in your community, ideally outside, that you’ve obtained permission to dance & record in that has meaning to you!  (We contacted our parks and rec department to get the go ahead.)  If you’re using a phone, make sure you hold it horizontally so the video is wider than it is tall.

Song Rules

Your song should be between 1 ½ – 3 minutes long.  Part of our initiative is to be artists supporting other artists, so the ideal song is by a local musician!  If you’re unable to get music from a local artist, your song should either be one in the public domain or if it’s a copyrighted song, it is your responsibility to obtain permission and synchronization rights for the music for your video.

While Glorify Dance Theatre is a ballet company, this competition is open to any style of dance – just so long as it has a positive message, is performed with excellence and is filled with JOY!

1st and 2nd place winners will be chosen based on their technical excellence and performance ability.  (If we have enough entries, we will split the competition into professional/amateur categories and choose winners from each.)
